Rainbow Hammer Multi Head

The Rainbow Hammer is one of the most beloved LPS corals in the reef hobby — and a multi-head specimen takes that love to a whole new level. Euphyllia ancora is prized for its large, hammer-shaped tentacle tips that sway hypnotically with the current, and the Rainbow morph adds an extraordinary dimension: a swirling mix of greens, purples, pinks, and golds that shifts and shimmers under reef lighting. A multi-head colony means more color, more movement, and more impact from day one.

Coral Details

  • Species: Euphyllia ancora (Hammer Coral)
  • Morph: Rainbow
  • Form: Multi-head colony
  • Care Level: Beginner to Intermediate — one of the most forgiving LPS corals
  • Growth Form: Branching; hammer-shaped tentacle tips

Tank Requirements

  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (stable reef)
  • Water Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
  • Salinity: 1.025–1.026 specific gravity
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
  • Nitrate: 2–10 ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.05–0.10 ppm

Lighting

Low to moderate — PAR 50–150. Place in the lower to mid section of the tank. The rainbow coloration is most vivid and complex under blue/actinic spectrum lighting.

Water Flow

Low to moderate, gentle and indirect. Hammer corals need their tentacles to sway freely — avoid direct, strong flow which causes retraction and stress.

Feeding

Target feed 1–2 times per week with mysis shrimp, LRS Reef Frenzy, or similar meaty foods. Feeding promotes faster growth and more vibrant coloration across all heads.

Compatibility

  • Aggression: Moderate to high — sweeper tentacles extend at night. Keep 6+ inches from non-Euphyllia corals. Compatible with other Euphyllia species (torches, frogspawn, other hammers).
  • Clownfish Host: Yes — hammer corals are a popular clownfish host
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with proper spacing

Notes on Photos

Photos taken under reef/blue lighting to showcase the full rainbow color spectrum. The multi-head nature means each head may display slightly different color expression.
