Blowtorch Torch
Blowtorch Torch
The Blowtorch Torch is one of the most electrifying torch coral morphs available — and one look at it under blue lighting tells you exactly how it earned its name. This Euphyllia glabrescens morph blazes with intense, fiery coloration: typically vivid gold or yellow tentacles with bright, contrasting tips that seem to glow like a flame. It's a high-impact coral that delivers serious visual drama in any reef tank.
Coral Details
- Species: Euphyllia glabrescens (Torch Coral)
- Morph: Blowtorch
- Care Level: Intermediate
- Growth Form: Large fleshy tentacles; branching skeleton
Tank Requirements
- Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (stable, established reef)
- Water Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026 specific gravity
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrate: 2–10 ppm

Lighting
Low to moderate — PAR 50–150. Place in the lower to mid section of the tank. The Blowtorch's fiery colors are most dramatic under blue/actinic spectrum lighting.
Water Flow
Low to moderate, gentle and indirect. Torch corals need their tentacles to sway freely. Avoid direct, high-velocity flow which causes retraction and stress.
Feeding
Target feed 1–2 times per week with mysis shrimp, LRS Reef Frenzy, or similar meaty foods. Regular feeding promotes faster growth and more vibrant coloration.
Compatibility
- Aggression: Moderate to high — potent sweeper tentacles at night. Maintain 6+ inches from non-Euphyllia corals. Compatible with other Euphyllia (hammers, frogspawn, other torches).
- Clownfish Host: Yes — a popular and natural host for Ocellaris and Percula clownfish
- Reef Safe: Yes, with proper spacing
