Malaysian Blue Tip Torch

The Malaysian Blue Tip Torch is one of the most mesmerizing torch coral variants in the hobby. Sourced from the biodiverse reefs of Malaysia, this Euphyllia glabrescens morph features long, gracefully flowing tentacles with striking blue or purple tips that seem to glow under reef lighting. The combination of warm base tones and cool blue tips creates a visual contrast that is simply unforgettable in a well-lit reef tank.

Coral Details

  • Species: Euphyllia glabrescens (Torch Coral)
  • Origin: Malaysia
  • Morph: Blue Tip
  • Care Level: Intermediate
  • Growth Form: Long, flowing tentacles; branching skeleton

Tank Requirements

  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (stable, established reef)
  • Water Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
  • Salinity: 1.025–1.026 specific gravity
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
  • Nitrate: 2–10 ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.05–0.10 ppm

Lighting

Low to moderate — PAR 50–150. The blue tips fluoresce brilliantly under actinic/blue spectrum lighting. Place in the lower to mid section of the tank and acclimate gradually.

Water Flow

Low to moderate, gentle and indirect. Malaysian torches have notably long tentacles — give them room to sway. Avoid direct, high-velocity flow.

Feeding

Target feed 1–2 times per week with mysis shrimp, LRS Reef Frenzy, or similar meaty foods. Regular feeding enhances growth rate and tip coloration.

Compatibility

  • Aggression: Moderate to high — sweeper tentacles extend at night. Maintain 6+ inches from non-Euphyllia corals. Compatible with other Euphyllia (hammers, frogspawn, other torches).
  • Clownfish Host: Yes — a natural host for Ocellaris and Percula clownfish
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with proper spacing

Notes on Photos

Photos taken under reef/blue lighting. The blue tips are most vivid under actinic spectrum and fluoresce beautifully in a reef environment.
