Holy Grail Torch
Holy Grail Torch
The Holy Grail Torch is the crown jewel of the torch coral world — and its name is no exaggeration. This ultra-rare Euphyllia glabrescens morph is defined by its extraordinary coloration: typically a stunning combination of gold, yellow, and green tentacles tipped with vivid contrasting colors. Owning a Holy Grail Torch is a milestone moment for any serious reef keeper, and these specimens are among the most sought-after corals in the hobby.
Coral Details
- Species: Euphyllia glabrescens (Torch Coral)
- Morph: Holy Grail
- Care Level: Intermediate
- Growth Form: Large fleshy tentacles; branching skeleton
Tank Requirements
- Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (stable, established reef)
- Water Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026 specific gravity
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH (stability is more important than hitting a specific number)
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrate: 2–10 ppm
- Phosphate: 0.05–0.10 ppm
Lighting
Low to moderate lighting — PAR of 50–150. Torch corals are not high-light corals; they thrive in the lower to mid sections of the tank. Acclimate slowly to avoid bleaching. The Holy Grail's colors pop beautifully under blue/actinic spectrum.
Water Flow
Low to moderate, gentle and indirect. Torch corals need their tentacles to flow freely — strong direct flow causes retraction and stress. Aim for a gentle, swaying motion.
Feeding
Torch corals are active feeders. Target feed 1–2 times per week with meaty foods: mysis shrimp, LRS Reef Frenzy, or similar. Feeding accelerates growth and enhances coloration.
Compatibility
- Aggression: Moderate to high — Euphyllia have potent sweeper tentacles. Keep at least 6 inches from other coral species. Euphyllia corals (torches, hammers, frogspawn) are generally compatible with each other.
- Clownfish Host: Yes — torch corals are a popular clownfish host, especially for Ocellaris and Percula clownfish
- Reef Safe: Yes, with proper spacing
Notes on Photos
Photos were taken under reef/blue lighting to best represent the coral's true coloration. Appearance may vary slightly under different lighting spectrums.
